Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay had a close relationship with her Aunt Denise she urged DuVernay to develop her creativity and was attracted by art. The aunt she had was a nurse who worked shifts at night so that she could devote the day to literature, art, theater and other interests. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay was trained by her mother to understand that art can be used to engage people. DuVernay was also taught by her mother who had a strong social conscience, and encouraged DuVernay to exhibit her artistic talents. DuVernay who was born together with her parents in Compton was a summer resident in Lowndes County Alabama in the family home of her father. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historic civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby town Selma Alabama. The summers DuVernay spent there inspired her later to direct a movie that focused on The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as his Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay earned her high school diploma from Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. After graduation she was enrolled at an institution called the University of California Los Angeles where she earned qualifications in English and African American studies. DuVernay began to produce to broadcast journalism while she was in her the college. DuVernay was a journalist intern at CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being asked check the trash at the home of a member of the jury. In the aftermath of being dissatisfied in journalism by the tasks she was handed, DuVernay was inspired to start a new career in public relations. DuVernay began her work working as a junior press assistant in a tiny film studio shortly after she graduated from college. Her first venture was The DuVernay Agency, her company for public relations in 1999. The agency has launched a wide range of networks for promotion and lifestyle such as Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
